Steve Lentz

Network Engineering Consultant

Steve Lentz is responsible for the specification, integration and validation of optical communications within NEPTUNE Canada. This involves working closely with Alcatel-Lucent, L3-Maripro, and Oceanworks to monitor the development, testing, manufacturing and deployment of the backbone cable, shore terminal, nodes, and junction boxes. Steve also works closely with project scientists and the DMAS team to ensure proper operation of all network functions. Additionally, Steve is the engineering project manager responsible for oversight of NGK’s development and delivery of the Vertical Profiling System (VPS).

Steve Lentz has twenty years experience in the construction and operation of fiber optic communications networks. Steve’s experience spans international submarine cable networks, national networks, and metropolitan area networks and covers network construction, transmission equipment, network management, and network facilities such as cable stations and associated data centers. Steve’s recent work includes the specification of a fiber optic system for BP connecting deep water oil production platforms in the Gulf of Mexico to shore. Previously, Steve has served as VP Network Engineering and Deployment for 360networks and also as Director of Network Engineering for 360networks’ submarine division. In this role, Steve developed the network architecture, functional requirements, and performance specifications for international submarine cable networks and supervised a team of engineers responsible for testing, commissioning, and verification of compliance with contractual requirements. During 360networks’ financial restructuring, Steve supported the transfer of operational network assets to new owners. Other positions held by Steve include Manager of Transmission Engineering for Time Telekom, Sdn. Bhd. located in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, and Director of Systems Engineering for Lightwave Spectrum, Inc.
